The Kew Royal Botanical Gardens are the most prestigeous in the world. They are set on a 121 hectare site in Kew, bounded by the Thames river. The gardens offer numerous differents landscapes within some of which are set inside grand old victorian green houses and some new hot houses such as the terrace style Princess Diana green house inside the planting has been incredibly well thought out to accomerdate countless species living in harmony yet all asthetically pleasing to the public. The outside areas around the grounds are kept in top condition and have many different facets to their design layout. There are areas which are laid out for children to play, sucluded pathways, japanesses style gardens and maze like hedges. This is just some of whats at Kew but everything I have seen flows well into each other and seem effortless in doing so which I think is a testament to it design.
Welcome to my blog I hope that you enjoy the content for me its been a means to highlight some of the different landscapes and experiences within Landscape Architecture that I have encountered in my time at Kingston University.
Landscape Architecture is the focus of my studies, but on that journey I have had to broaden my experience to the wider design world and environment in general, to achieve a greater understanding of how to accomplish good design and create a great space. What do I think a great space is? Well this is subjective, to me a great space is something that excites, makes you stop for a moment and consider where you are, to walk away feeling inspire for just an instant and to make someones day a little more bright and pleasant just because of what you created.
The space doesnt always have to be cutting edge, which I tried to illustrate with the mix of sites in my blog, I feel a good space must have a context and a purpose, the space doesnt always have to be about people it could also be about the habitats and environment, or just creating something sustainable for the future.
With any learning experience it never ends and only helps guide you to the better understanding of something, that is what I have gained from Landscape architecture, a understanding and knowledge to apply to the future and any design/process I am a part of.
This blog is a means for me to highlight some of the different landscapes and experiences within Landscape Architecture that I have encountered in my time at Kingston University.
The current objectives I wanted to develop whilst blogging are to gain a greater understanding of management processes in the landscape and look at different sites and spaces to see what they do differently. Another objective is to further my knowledge of Urban spaces this could range from a public square to a pedestrianation programs, the real objective here is to further refine my understanding of the types of urban landscapes which exist, through visiting examples. I also would aim to develop new resources and abilities through varying means such as lectures, media and programs.
