Barcelona visit

Barcelona is wiyhout a doubt one of the best cities in the world for outdoors spaces and living, the architecture and landscape architecture create a vibrant culture and traveling to all corners of the city I found surprises throughout, from quirky little parks to the well known attractions and even along the cities coast you will find something that takes your eye.

Park Guell is Gaudis Park it has such flambouants that words cant do it justice it offers unparalleled views across the city with such a diversity in design yet still maintains Gaudis signature with many complex mosaics and intricate areas by far the best formal park I have come across. If theres one thing I would say it is that the space is used perfectly giving the illusion of greater space than there actually is.

Barcelona Botanical gardens also known as Jardi Botanic de Barcelona hosts five world regions of species from mediterranean climates. The layout to these gardens is terraced and because of the altitude offer views right across Barcelona. The most important part of the design of this Botanical garden to me which differ from anywhere else is the engagement with children. there are many interactive areas aimed at children to make the experience far more fun. To me this was my favourite aspect of the Botanical Gardens.

Parc Diagonal Mar was one of my favourite Parcs I visited while in Barcelona it is somewhat of a small surprise, but a welcome one at that. The park has come from the need for an outdoor public space to serve a newly developing area near the sea front and a residential area. Small fountain built into the tube structure spray the park with a mist of cool refreshing water. The Park was designed by Enric Miralles for people to enjoy a stroll or take there children out to play. I think this is a fun and vibrant design which sums up Barcelona.

Port forum or Forum Park as its known to tjhe locals is another marvel at Barcelonas ability to produce impressive sites. The waterside landscape park was created for the 2004 international Forum of Cultures and this 30 hectare site was developed to house the event. The Forum is impressive at first glances but when you look deeper you start to realise that this is a site which lacks some of the finishing touches, such as the poorly laid paving or the fact that the site now appears unused and wasted. However there are many beautiful ideas such as the hanging bags of rocks or the angular light tunnel in the exhibition centre. This is still a park to inspire and a must see if you visit the city.

The Sagrada Familia sometimes called Gaudi's Dream is a hundred years in the making. Some would be put off by the site of construction work but when you examine the detail of the design you really realise what a masterpiece this is. The Sagrada Familia dominates the skyline but also enhances it and the journey through the towers both nerve racking and inspiring. There is nowhere quite like it and no experience similar, its fun and creative.
